How to Waive/Override Requirements
How to Waive/Override Requirements
Updated over a week ago

In certain situations, you may make a business decision to allow a Party to be exempt from a certain requirement. You can do that in the TrustLayer platform by Waiving or Overriding a requirement in their Compliance Profile at the Party level.

How to Waive/Override Requirements

Waiving/Overriding a requirement is an alternative to deleting a requirement at the party level. Once the requirement has been waived/overridden, the requirement will no longer be required for this particular party to be marked as compliant. You can select for the requirement to be waived/overridden up to a certain date or to always be waived/overridden. It is recommended if the requirement should never apply to remove that requirement from the party's Compliance Profile.

For example, a subcontractor does not have a certain coverage that is typically required per the standard compliance profile. After talking to the subcontractor and evaluating the work, it is determined that coverage may not be needed at this time. The Organization decided that due to this party being a lower risk overall, the subcontractor is okay to continue with the work for now, but next year they will need the coverage in order to continue doing business. The organization waives the requirement, setting an expiration date, so when new documents are requested the Party will see the requirement once again listed as a needed requirement.

1 On the Party's Compliance profile tab, scroll down to the requirement needing to be waived.

2 Select the 3 Dots to the right of the requirement that needs to be waived or overridden.

3 Click Waive Requirement or Override Requirement depending on the verbiage you would prefer. Both selections will yield the same outcome. However, you can use different verbiage in order to optimize your workflows.

For example, you could use Override Requirements to indicate that this action was approved by a Broker and in contrast, use Waive Requirements when approved by the TL User or your Supervisor. How you choose to designate each of these terms is at your discretion.

4 In the new pop-up, add any Notes you would like to include and select the date the waive/override should be removed by clicking on the date that pops up in the calendar, or by typing out the date and hitting "Enter" on your keyboard to save the date. A note is beneficial if this action was the result of manager approval. You could document who made the decision and the decision the date was made directly in the notes for future reference.

Note: If no date is selected, the requirement will continue to show on the list of requirements sent to the party at renewal but will continue to show as waived/overridden. When selecting a date, be sure the date expires before a new Document Request goes out. This way, the Party will see the requirement as needed upon renewal.

For example, if a waived requirement was meant to only be temporary and is needed for the next policy term and automatic reminders are set to go out 1 month before the renewal date, set the expiration date to expire earlier than that 1-month reminder. Standard practice is to set the date to 1 day prior to the first automatic expiring document notification.

5 Click on the blue Waive or Override button.

6 Once complete you will see the requirement marked as Waived or Overridden. If an expiration date was set, you will also see a clock icon appear next to the requirement. Hovering over the clock will indicate the date that the waiver/override is set to expire for future reference.

How to Edit a Waiver/Override

1 Click on the 3 Dots to the right of the Waived/Overridden requirement needing to be adjusted.

2 Select Edit Waiver/Override.

3 Make the edits as desired.

4 Click on the blue Waive/Override button to save changes.

How to Remove a Waiver/Override

1 Click on the 3 Dots to the right of the Waived/Overridden requirement needing to be adjusted.
